Jake Obermeyer, Co-Head Coach of the Wenatchee Wolverines and Wilderness, and Associate Coach of the Wolves, has accepted a position as an Assistant Coach with the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders of the USHL. Obermeyer leaves the Wenatchee Tier 1 Development Team staff after two years with the program.

“We are excited for Jake and for his family. This is a terrific opportunity for him to further his coaching career. He has made a tremendous impact on our development teams these past two years and we are grateful to him for his contributions,” stated Ryan McKelvie, Head Coach and Hockey Director for the Development Teams.

Obermeyer joins the USHL after having played in the league during his junior hockey career from 2003-2006. The USHL is the only Tier 1 Junior hockey league in the United States. Obermeyer joins veteran USHL Head Coach Mark Carlson and second-year Assistant Coach Ben Kinne in Cedar Rapids.

“It has been a privilege and honor to work with Ryan McKelvie and Bliss Littler. With their guidance, my time here in Wenatchee has been wonderful and has expanded my knowledge and coaching ability tremendously. I will really miss working one on one with these incredibly hard working and well-rounded players as well as the entire Wild organization. I want to thank the owners, David and Lisa White, and each and every staff member, player, billet and parent for their continuous kindness, encouragement and support shown toward me and my family during our time here in Wenatchee” commented Obermeyer.

Wenatchee Wild General Manager and Head Coach, Bliss Littler, had this to say, “Jake has come a long ways in his two years working under Ryan McKelvie. I have no doubt that Jake is ready for this opportunity. We appreciate all his hard work and efforts put into our three development teams. We wish Jake and his young family nothing but success as he climbs the coaching ladder. The Cedar Rapids Roughriders are getting a coach with very high character.”

The Wenatchee Wild Tier 1 Development Teams are currently searching for Obermeyer’s replacement and look to have the position filled in the next couple of weeks. The Development Teams are entering their fourth year of operation in a joint partnership between Wenatchee Amateur Hockey Association and the Wenatchee Wild. The Development Teams consist of three Tier 1 AAA teams at the U14, U16, and U18 levels.
